Dal Methi

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Toor Dal(Redgram),
2 cups Water,
1 cup Methi leaves (Only the leaves without the tender stem)
3 tomatoes, chopped,
1 onion, chopped,
4 cloves garlic, chopped,
1″ piece of Ginger (optional)
7-8 curry leaves,
1/2 tsp rai(mustard seeds),
1/2 tsp jeera(cumin seeds),
1/4 tsp turmeric powder,
1/2 tsp red chilli powder,
1 tsp dhania powder(coriander powder),
1 or 2 red chillies as per taste,
10 whole black pepper,
1 tbsp ghee(butter).
 

Method:
Soak the dal for atleast four hours. In a pressure cooker mix dal, onion, tomatoes, turmeric powder and water enough to cook the dal. Pressure cook upto 4 whistles or until dal is cooked.
In a kadhai, heat some ghee, and add mustard seeds, when they splutter add cumin seeds, red chillies, garlic and curry leaves. For for half a minute, add red chilli powder and dhania powder. Fry for some time and then add the methi. Mix well and cover and cook for few minutes till methi is cooked. Then add the cooked dal and salt, mix well and bring to boil. Add water if needed. Serve hot with rice or parathas and pickle.
